Blogging Tips: You Are Your Blog’s Sriracha Sauce

Blogging tips: Mac with his Sriracha sauce Just in case you don’t know Sriracha from applesauce, it’s just the most awesome, tasty hot sauce that ever existed. Don’t argue with me on this. I know.

Let’s assume you’ve invested in a great design for your website, learned how to manage your inbound marketing campaign, and written some posts using targeted keywords. Maybe you’ve even written a lot of posts.

How’s that working for you? Are you getting leads, prospects, and customers? Is your online visibility growing?

What Sriracha Has To Do with Your Blog

Here’s a simple equation to help illustrate this metaphor:

your blog + no spice = bad results.

How you craft your blog posts can make the difference between a great-tasting, spicy plate of awesomeness that drives high ROI for your blogging efforts, and the crappy, ineffective equivalent of month-old white rice with no salt.

I don’t want to eat un-spiced month-old white rice. Do you? The same thing is true with your blog. If you don’t spice it up, nobody will want to read it.

And you, my friend, have got to be that spicy sprinkling of personality that amplifies your blogging results.

A fantastic example of a blogger who liberally spreads the hot stuff throughout killer content is Matthew Woodward, whose recent post about how he built his website into a top 100 blog in 1 year has tons of information and ample personality.

Sriracha sauce is simple stuff. Peppers, garlic, salt, vinegar and water. Maybe a touch of fish sauce if that’s your thing.

A blog’s ingredients can be simple, too: helpful information about how your products solve problems faced by customers of your industry, great website design and easy navigation, and your passion for your business added for spice.

The difficulty – and what takes a lot of hard work to achieve – is creating GREAT Sriracha sauce. It’s both an art and a science.

Likewise, you’re going to have to work hard on honing your blog’s content in your own unique, entertaining voice. What are your blog post ingredients? How much of each? When do you insert them?

You’ve got to work hard to figure these things out.

There are probably some folks reading this with wide eyes thinking, “But I don’t have any blogging spices! Where do I go to get blogging spices?!?”

Questions You Can Ask Yourself to Find Your Business Blog Awesomeness

Try answering the following questions to see if you can start to form a picture of what you can do to spice up your blog content.

What excites you about your business and the products or services you offer?

How can you share your excitement about these aspects of your business, and the benefits they offer your customers, in a way that’s authentically YOU?

What makes you laugh?

How can you share your sense of humor with your customers as part of your conversation with them?

What obstacles (regulations, unscrupulous competition, etc.) make it hard to deliver a great product or service in your industry?

Would it get you fired up to talk about that in an open and honest way, setting you apart from others and getting your blog readers to nod “YES!” in agreement?

Are you a big softie? What’s truly special about your business and your team? What makes you misty-eyed about your work?

Does helping customers solve their problems get you fired up (it better!)?

What victories have you scored for your customers through product and service delivery?

Would they allow you to share how you helped them? Do you ask for testimonials from your customers?

It’s up to you to find your inner Sriracha.

The tips above are just a start. Sit down and think about the things that fire you up and make you special. Write them down. Incorporate them into your blogging. Start now.

However you do it, whatever questions you have to ask yourself and answer, however long it takes you to find that special voice that makes people care, do it.

Don’t neglect adding spice to your blog, or ain’t nobody going to want to sit down to your table!
