She has only been with VIEO for a little over a month, but Candice McNamara has already become an essential part of our team.
Actually, that’s not much of a surprise; a few weeks before she started at VIEO, Candice was named “Mostly Likely to Be Your Boss in 10 Years” at the 2015 Knoxville Big Wig Awards, so we knew we were getting an up-and-comer.
As VIEO’s business development director, Candice has been working with current and potential clients to tailor service packages that meet their needs and deliver results that exceed their expectations. She's been delighting customers for most of her life, starting with the door-to-door Play-Doh pizza business she started at age 5 (the proceeds were spent on ice cream).
Though today her strengths lie in analytics and data analysis, Candice got her start in a very different industry: entertainment.
After joining Fee/Hedrick Entertainment at the age of 15, Candice spent 6 years learning about the industry. She was mentored during that time by some of the biggest names in East Tennessee travel and tourism, and ultimately took a role in the corporate division while attending Lee University.
While working toward her degree in public relations, Candice received a scholarship to study travel and tourism in Germany and Austria, which gave her the opportunity to visit major brands like Volkswagen, Lewis Global Communications, and Salzburg Convention Bureau.
After graduation, Candice began working at a digital agency, where she trained to be a digital marketing Jedi with a special focus on ROI analysis.
In her 13 years of marketing experience, she has worked with traditional marketing strategies as well as digital tactics including email marketing, SEO/SEM, Google Display Network and Adwords, content marketing, and social media campaigns.
In her words, “I love to help people learn, innovate, grow, and be challenged; I happen to do this through digital marketing and data storytelling.”
Candice’s favorite parts of working in business development are building relationships with clients and connecting businesses with the answers we’re looking for. Her job involves hours and hours of research into emerging technologies and market opportunities, as well as learning everything she can from the subject matter experts around her.
A native New Yorker, Candice loves taking full advantage of Tennessee’s natural resources in her free time. She often spends her weekends rock climbing, trail running, and hiking, it’s not uncommon to hear a great story behind a gnarly bruise on Monday morning.
Candice also enjoys mentoring young people who are new to digital marketing and volunteering with the Down Syndrome Awareness Group of East Tennessee. In her few remaining free hours, you may be able to find her at the Data Science KNX Meetup discussing website analytics.
